One of the most enduring images of Jesus is the Good Shepherd. This tender image of Jesus carrying a lamb with two other sheep following him, is a fresco found in one of the catacombs in Rome. It dates back to the 3rd or 4th Century. Jesus called himself the Good Shepherd whose love and dedication to His sheep would lead Him to lay down His life for them. This image brought comfort and hope to the early Christian Martyrs. Today this tender image continues to remind us that Jesus not only leads His us but lives among us, guards us, guides us and loves us.
