Sisters

Sisters of the Resurrection live an active-contemplative life, striking a balance between service, prayer and leisure. Continuing the tradition of our foundresses, we focus on listening and responding to the needs of our communities, especially in the areas of health care and education. Our work in all areas aims to help transform events and attitudes for individuals and society from loss to gain, despair to hope and sadness to joy.

As Sisters of the Resurrection, our lives are guided by three vows that we profess:

Chastity: Through our vow of chastity, we have a responsibility to be a sign and stimulus of charity, fidelity and commitment in a society which lacks an understanding of these values. Our fidelity to this vow presupposes a respect for life on all levels, and a love for people regardless of race or creed, and it requires us to oppose war, sexism and addictions that destroy life or the ability to live life to the fullest.

Poverty: Our fidelity to poverty brings an awareness of economic conditions and the need for conservation of energy and care of the environment, and it challenges us to counteract overindulgence, materialism, starvation and the exploitation of persons who are poor.

Obedience: Our fidelity to obedience presupposes a commitment to the mission of the Church to minister to a world plagued by ignorance, indifference, individualism and abuse of power, which seeks to dominate and control.

Community life is important to the sisters, who share prayer, meals, leisure and work. While there is no such thing as a typical day for a sister, we pray Morning Prayer and the celebration of the Mass, and gather in groups to pray Evening Prayer. We cherish times together in frequent celebrations of personal and community anniversaries and events. During the day, sisters work in various jobs including education, health care, caring for the sick and elderly and volunteering to be of service to the residents at Ascension Resurrection Village.
