Warmth is the soul of the child
National Teacher Appreciation Day
Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day in the midst of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the first full week of May. In 1944, an Arkansas teacher, Mattyre White Woodridge wrote a letter to political and educational leaders requesting an official day to recognize educators nationwide.  It so happened the Eleanor Roosevelt received one of those letters and convinced the 81th Congress to proclaim this day in 1953. Some quotes about teachers
“What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.” - Karl Menninger

“One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.” - Carl Jung

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” - Henry Brooks Adams

“The women I know with strong personalities, the ones who might have become generals or the heads of companies if they were men, become teachers. Teaching is a calling, too. And I've always thought that teachers in their way are holy--angles leading their flocks out of the darkness.” Jeannette Walls
