 Peace be to this land
World Earth Day

Today is World Earth Day.  Observing this day is intended to get support for care of the environment by taking more steps to solve environmental issues.

This is observed on April 22 because it was this day in 1970 that a number of groups from colleges campuses protested the environmental deterioration and pollution.

This is a statement related to care of the earth that Pope Francis offered in his homily during his inauguration mass, 2013:

“The vocation of being a ‘protector,’ however, is not just something involving us Christians alone; it also has a prior dimension which is simply human, involving everyone. It means protecting all creation, the beauty of the created world, as the Book of Genesis tells us and as Saint Francis of Assisi showed us. It means respecting each of God’s creatures and respecting the environment in which we live.”

For unity within our communities
Aand collaboration in our care for the earth,
Let us pray.
Creator God, we thank you for all of creation. We ask your forgiveness where we have failed to be just stewards. And we now ask for your guidance in restoring the face of the earth. May we learn to live in harmony, safety and just sharing of resources among all
so that we achieve the kingdom of God.
Peace be to this community. Peace be to this land. Peace be to all people.
